How profit is calculated

How the Profit column in sales reports is worked out for each invoice line, with an example.

Table of Contents

Profit is worked out per invoice line: Item Net minus the cost price.

  • Item Net is after discounts and before tax.

  • The cost price is what's saved on the product or service.

Say a service is £120 with a £20 discount and a £30 cost. Item Net is £100, so profit is £70. Tax makes no difference.

Add Profit with Edit Columns, as it isn't shown by default. You can sort and export it, but not filter by it. A missing cost price makes the whole line look like profit.
