Retail, consumable and injectable products
The difference between the category types, and how each one behaves at the till and in counts.
A product's type comes from its category. Each category has a Category type.
Retail: sold to patients at the till.
Consumable: used up in your work, such as gloves or gauze. These are deducted from stock when used rather than sold on.
Injectable: used on patients and recorded in treatment notes, such as toxin or filler. These usually have a measure and dose.
Professional: products reserved for professional use in the clinic.
Why it matters
Stock counts start by asking whether you are counting Retail, Consumables or Injectables. Injectable products also appear in injection charting. To create a type, open Products, go to Categories and click New Category.
